Kavad

The KATHA Exhibition at Nottingham Castle, UK has provided an invaluable platform to explore and share the rich tradition of Indian storytelling, and one of the highlights of our contribution has been the Kavad Animation and the hands-on “Make Your Own Kavad” activity. Both of these elements have been designed to engage audiences with storytelling in a new and exciting way while maintaining a deep respect for cultural heritage.

The Kavad Animation draws inspiration from the traditional Indian storytelling box, reimagining it with vibrant animation while maintaining cultural authenticity. The animation, influenced by the intricate Bani Thani art style and storytelling legends like Krish, Trish, and Baltiboy, aimed to captivate younger audiences and spark conversations about the evolution of storytelling.
The “Make Your Own Kavad” activity was a hands-on experience that allowed visitors to design their own Kavad, connecting them directly to India’s storytelling tradition in a creative way. The response was overwhelming, with visitors of all ages engaging deeply and creating unique pieces that reflected their personal interpretations.
This project was the result of an amazing team effort, with contributions from various talented individuals working together to bring this idea to life. We used Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, Blender, and Adobe Animate to create the designs and bring the animation to life, blending tradition with modern technology.
